New parents receive a great deal of the same thing. By week two most have more newborn-size clothing than the baby will ever wear, and several of them are still in bags.
The gifts that get used share one quality: they solve something. Here is what that looks like.
Start with what they will run out of
Consumables are the most reliably appreciated baby gift and the least frequently given, because they feel less exciting to buy. They are used within weeks.

Then add one thing they will keep
Against the consumables, one lasting piece gives the box its emotional weight.

Size up on clothing if you give it. Newborn size is the most gifted and the fastest outgrown; three to six months is far more useful.
Include something for the mother
This is the single most overlooked element of a new baby gift, and the one most likely to be remembered.
Every gift arriving in those first weeks is addressed to the baby. A box that acknowledges the person who just gave birth — a good hand cream, a calming tea, a chocolate that is hers alone — registers immediately.
It need not be much. A hand cream for hands that are now washed twenty times a day, or a chamomile tea for the hours nobody else is awake.
Practical notes for the UAE
Timing: many families prefer to receive visitors and gifts once the mother is home and settled, typically after the first week or two. Sending early is rarely wrong, but arriving early in person can be.
Fragrance: newborns are sensitive to it. Choose unscented or very lightly scented products for anything that touches the baby.
Colour: if you do not know the family's preference, ivory, sage and soft gold are safe and photograph well — which matters more than it should, given how many of these boxes end up on social media.
